Left Lower Quadrant Pain Icd 10
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A medical classification is used to transform descriptions of medical diagnoses or procedures into standardized statistical code in a process known as clinical coding, Diagnosis classifications list diagnosis codes, which are used to track diseases and other health conditions, inclusive of chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus and heart disease, and infectious diseases such as norovirus, the flu, and athlete’s foot,
- statistical analysis of diseases and therapeutic actions
- reimbursement (e.g., to process claims in medical billing based on diagnosis-related groups )
- knowledge-based and decision support systems
- direct surveillance of epidemic or pandemic outbreaks
There are country specific standards and international classification systems.

What can left lower quadrant pain mean?
Left lower quadrant – Pain that is specifically in your lower left abdomen is most often related to diverticulosis and diverticulitis of the colon. Diverticula (small outpouchings in the bowel wall) can occur throughout your colon, but they usually develop in the lower left part.

What is the differential diagnosis for LUQ pain?
A. What is the differential diagnosis for this problem? – The most common diagnoses for LUQ pain relate to intestinal (small/large), splenic, pancreatic, and renal processes. Small bowel causes include obstruction, Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel xyndrome (IBS), mesenteric ischemia, and mesenteric adenitis – an inflammatory process of mesenteric lymph nodes that often mimics appendicitis.
Large bowel causes include colitis, diarrhea, diverticulitis, volvulus, mesenteric ischemia, and obstipation/constipation. Splenic etiologies include trauma, infarct, and splenomegaly secondary to neoplasms, lymphoma, portal vein thrombosis, Gaucher’s disease, portal hypertension, and endocarditis. Pancreatic causes include both acute and chronic pancreatitis, and pancreatic abscesses/cysts and malignancy.
Finally, most common diseases of the renal system include pyelonephritis, nephrolithiasis, and perinephric abscess. In addition to intra-abdominal causes of abdominal pain, extra-abdominal and referred causes of LUQ pain to consider are dermatologic, musculoskeletal, and cardio/pulmonary.
What main organ is in the left lower quadrant?
Left Lower Quadrant – Organs found in this quadrant include the sigmoid colon, and the left ovary and Fallopian tube in women. Pain in this quadrant may be symptomatic of colitis, diverticulitis, or kidney stones. Ovarian cysts (in women) or pelvic inflammation may also be at the root of pain in this quadrant.
Diverticulitis Diverticula are small, bulging pouches that can form in the lining of your digestive system. Sometimes, however, one or more of the pouches become inflamed or infected. That condition is known as diverticulitis. Ureteral Colic This is most commonly caused by the obstruction of the urinary tract by kidney stones.
Colitis Colitis, simply put, is inflammation of the colon. The three most common forms of colitis are: ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, and infection. Ulcerative Colitis This is a chronic IBD that causes sores (ulcers) in the lining of your colon, as well as inflammation.
Is left lower quadrant pain a diagnosis?
Abstract – Left lower quadrant pain is a frequent indication for imaging in the emergency department. Most causes of pain originate from the colon, including diverticulitis, colitis, fecal impaction, and epiploic appendagitis. Left-sided urolithiasis and spontaneous hemorrhage in the retroperitoneum or rectus sheath are additional causes of pain.
- Computed tomography is the preferred imaging modality in the emergent setting for all of these pathologic conditions.
- Gynecologic, testicular, and neoplastic pathology may also cause left lower quadrant pain but are not discussed in this article.
- Eywords: Colitis; Diverticulitis; Epiploic appendagitis; Rectus sheath hematoma; Retroperitoneal hematoma; Stercoral perforation; Urolithiasis.

What is the ICD-10 code for acute left sided low back pain with left sided sciatica?
ICD-10 code M54.42 for Lumbago with sciatica, left side is a medical classification as listed by WHO under the range – Dorsopathies.
What major organ is in the LUQ?
Left Lower Quadrant – The left lower quadrant houses the majority of the small intestine, some of the large intestine, the left half of the female reproductive system, and the left ureter. Pain in this region is generally associated with colitis (inflammation of the large intestine) as well as pelvic inflammatory disease and ovarian cysts in females.
What is pain in the left upper quadrant?
Pain in the upper left abdomen can be caused by a stomach ulcer, acute gastritis, a viral infection, or indigestion. But it may be an issue with your lungs, like pneumonia. If symptoms persist, talk to your doctor.
What is the LUQ region?
Quadrants – Diagram showing which organs (or parts of organs) are in each quadrant of the abdomen The left lower quadrant (LLQ) of the human abdomen is the area left of the midline and below the umbilicus, The LLQ includes the left iliac fossa and half of the left flank region. The equivalent term for animals is left posterior quadrant, Important organs here are:
the descending colon and sigmoid colon the left ovary and fallopian tube the left ureter
The left upper quadrant (LUQ) extends from the median plane to the left of the patient, and from the umbilical plane to the left ribcage. The equivalent term for animals is left anterior quadrant, Important organs here are:
Stomach Spleen Left lobe of liver Body of pancreas Left kidney and adrenal gland Splenic flexure of colon Parts of transverse and descending colon
The right upper quadrant (RUQ) extends from the median plane to the right of the patient, and from the umbilical plane to the right ribcage. The equivalent term for animals is right anterior quadrant, Important organs here are:
Liver Gall bladder with biliary tree Duodenum Head of pancreas Right kidney and adrenal gland Hepatic flexure of colon
The right lower quadrant (RLQ) extends from the median plane to the right of the patient, and from the umbilical plane to the right inguinal ligament, The equivalent term for animals is right posterior quadrant, Important organs here are:
Cecum Appendix Ascending colon Right ovary and Fallopian tube Right ureter
